Different Types of Horse Stables

There are many different types of horse stables. The types are classified either by design or function.

Different Types of Horse Stables

A horse stable is usually thought of as an enclosed building with separate stalls for individual animals. They differ from run in sheds in that they are normally enclosed buildings. The run in shed is normally open and horses may seek shelter in them when they wish. The stable has the advantage of keeping the horse better protected and less exposed to the elements, but has the disadvantage of having to be frequently cleaned. In addition, the horse must be exercised daily when kept in a closed stable. The different types of horse stables include styles such as the American Barn stable. This type of building resembles a large barn with large doors on each side.

A more common way of separating the different types of horse stables is the function or use of the horse within the stable. Some stables are called residential stables. Their purpose is solely to provide a safe, dry, and protected stall for the horse. When a horse is kept in a stable, its health can be monitored more closely and its feeding regulated. It is also safe from severe weather. The stable kept horse must be given daily care, however. This includes letting it out of the enclosed stall for daily exercise.

Another type of stable is the rental stable. This stable holds horses that are available to be rented for the purpose of riding. Horse rental stables usually do not provide housing for privately owned horses since the horse population of the stable consists of animals that have been tamed and prepared for riding purposes.

A training stable is another type. A training stable will usually accept privately owned horses and in addition to providing care for the animals offers training services also. The training stables will usually have some sort of track or riding area where the actual training takes place. Training of a horse can involve equestrian training or race training, but it can also just be gentleness training

The horse stable has been a traditional part of the culture of human beings since the dawn of history. Once man had tamed the horse and made it his partner, he had to assume the responsibility for its health, its safety, and its training. The stable is more than just a cage or prison for the horse, it is his home and a place where he can rest and feed in the comfort and safety he deserves.
